Twitter is flooded with ‘Is Skype down?’ messages. And yes it seems the VOIP service is indeed facing problems.

According to reports, Skype has admitted there’s a problem, with the company’s social media communications Manager Peter Parkes saying on a blog “A small number of you may have problems signing in to Skype. We’re investigating the cause, and hope to have more details to share soon.”

The crash comes just two weeks since a major outage forced several users to apply a fix to their apps in order to get up and running again.

Microsoft announced an $8.5 billion acquisition of the Internet telephone service Skype Technologies SA from eBay and a group of private equity investors including Silicon Valley heavyweights Silver Lake Partners. The deal is Microsoft’s largest cash purchase in its 36-year long history.
